Unlike Project Diktuon in general, Internet sites like Diktuon.net need some money to run. The cost for servers (rented or bought) Internet connection and electricity are mandatory.
Currently the site is funded solely by me as a private person. The thing is, I really don’t want your money. I want your hearts and minds, and them to Christ the King. If it was up to me, I would probably be happy that way.
Fortunately it isn’t. The Kingdom is a realm of interdependence, and we should be dependent on each other. Therefore it is a great blessing that I cannot afford that. Being financially involved into the community creates stronger sense of commitment. And when more people commit to Diktuon.net that will improve my own motivation to work on it.
Ultimately I think Diktuon.net should be funded by the community. It should be formally owned by the community too. In this respect I hope it would be like the Couchsurfing community. This important services must not be trusted to third parties. It is vital, that the members of Diktuon.net have total control over all data and software on the Diktuon.net. This could be achieved through a collective ownership of the service.
This arises a number of practical questions. Would there be an association? Who would be a member? Any user automatically? Sub-communities, who appoint their representatives? Any user who wishes to be? Important thin is that control stays in the hands of the users.
This way Diktuon.net would not be run by a company for its clients, but by an organisation for its members.
Initially though it might be most straightforward that I take care of the running. One idea to finance would then be providing Internet services – homepages, design, email etc. – to users and determine them a price in prayer. Then set up a web store where that service is sold – after it has been delivered – in chucks to whoever wants to buy it. For example if the agreed price was €200, it could be sold in 20 10€ chunks.
But these I just my ideas. You are welcome to bring yours. And to cook some Stone soup.
